____________________________ I think this open journal may interest mainly people who know me, and people who knew me and wonder what became of me. At present that is who I am especially aiming to do something for here, though I'm not writing any Friends-Only posts lately. Welcome, and enjoy, no matter who you are or who I am to you. The young Auden in his "Letter to Lord Byron" finds the root of writing "in our attempt to entertain our friends". I love him, I love that hilarious poem, but on this question I'm with Gertrude Stein, who wrote "I write for myself and strangers" and also acknowledged how misleading that statement can be... If you think you know me or knew me, really though aren't we strangers? Hint: 'gute' is not meant to refer to the German word. It's Esperanto. It's a fairly broad word, embracing everything like "in drops", "by drops", "drop by drop", "drop after drop" — and it's how I expect to do things here. | |
